Legendary former Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso believes that Inter benefited from the support of fans in the San Siro in their 3-1 win over Sheriff Tiraspol yesterday evening, but that it was not decisive.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the Argentine gave the view that the Nerazzurri fully impressed with their display against Sheriff and that they stirred the crowd as much as the fans supported them.

Inter will have welcomed the return of fans to stadiums greatly for the whole season, and they will have been especially grateful to play in front of a home crowd at the San Siro in a must-win match against Sheriff.

The Nerazzurri achieved their first win of the Champions League group stage, and the atmosphere was electric as the crowd were behind the team the whole way.

The result was vital and the performance was strong, amplified by the crowd in the stadium, but Cambiasso believes that it was the team themselves who were ultimately behind the performance.

Asked how significant the San Siro’s impact was he stated, “It weighs, but in my opinion it also matters what the team transmits. The fan multiplies what the team gives them. The credit goes to what the players did, plus the boost from the fans who want to enjoy beautiful football evenings.”
