A former technical director of Inter has revealed that he tried to bring Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to the club a few years ago, according to a report in the Italian media.

Whilst being interviewed by Back to the Football, as has been reported by FcInter1908, Walter Sabatini admitted that Inter were effectively priced out of a deal for the Serbian.

“Lazio could have sold Milinkovic-Savic 4-5 years ago for €50-60 million. There was a moment when we tried to take him for Inter: there was a request made not directly to Tare and Lotito but to the agent and there was talk of that figure.

“Refusing €50-60 million for a player takes a fair amount of courage.”

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been a stand out performer at Lazio for many years now and that is why he has consistently been linked to teams such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Liverpool throughout his career.

He has always stayed loyal to the Biancocelesti and he seems destined to spend almost his entire career at the Roman club.

Walter Sabatini also had praise for Simone Inzaghi for both his time at Lazio and his performances so far for Inter since he took the role when Antonio Conte decided to leave.

“Inzaghi has had a wonderful cycle at Lazio, he has been a prodigy in recent years: he has always played spectacular football, doing well in the results and in the market.”
