A former Inter defender has stated who he thinks should start in the midfield for Inter against Juventus on Sunday night, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview on television with Sky Sport 24, Francesco Colonnese explained that Inter will need a more physical midfielder against Juventus as they are so strong upfront.

It is known that Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolo Barella will start as usual, but the third spot is up for grabs. Francesco Colonnese believes that either Matias Vecino or Roberto Gagliardini should be given it.

“Inter-Juventus will be a physical match, which is why I would have Vecino or Gagliardini play with Barella and Brozovic in midfield. Perhaps, more Vecino.”

The ex-defender also explained that he hopes the FC Sheriff win will be a turning point for Inter and that individual errors have cost them a lot of goals this season.

“We all hope so, but we need to improve in the defensive phase and from the point of view of individual errors. This year they cost a lot, starting with the match against Lazio.

“Against Sheriff, Handanovic could have done better. Inter must try to have an insurmountable defence as in last season and take advantage of the qualities ahead.

This year there is not the same speed, but he plays football more than possession. From an implementation point of view, there is no big difference.”

There is a battle ensuing between Alessandro Bastoni and Federico Dimarco in the defence but Francesco Colonnese believes that Simone Inzaghi must do what is necessary to get the best put of Alessandro Bastoni.

“Bastoni is one of the best Italian defenders, but he made mistakes. If he continues to not perform at the top, I am in agreement with Inzaghi in preferring Dimarco. But I’m sure that Inzaghi also wants to find the real Bastoni again.”
