Former Inter Sporting Director Walter Sabatini feels a sense of regret at having left Inter, where he acted as technical director for a little over a year between 2017 and 2018.

Speaking to Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the 66-year-old opened up on how he feels that leaving the Nerazzurri was the wrong decision in his career.

Sabatini arrived in 2017 with a good reputation having done admirable work for the likes of Lazio and Roma in particular, and owners Suning appointed him in a directorial role at both Inter and Jiangsu Suning.

However, little more than a year had past before Sabatini was on his way, and he discussed the circumstances of his departure among other topics in the interview.

For the director, in fact, the decision to depart from the Nerazzurri was one of the most significant professional mistakes that he has made, and something that he still is disappointed with himself over.

“I made a big mistake that a professional cannot make for any reason,” he said. “I will never forgive myself. I have never forgiven myself for anything, but this less than ever.”

On seeing Edin Dzeko, who he signed at Roma, in an Inter shirt he admitted that he feels “A very bad impression. To me it feels bad. Especially for my son Santiago who does not give up on him.”
