Inter legend Sandro Mazzola has suggested that Inter are a weaker team this season than they were last season after the departures in the summer, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with Juventusnews24.com, Sandro Mazzola cited the departures of Antonio Conte, Romelu Lukaku, and Achraf Hakimi as the reason why Inter are inferior to last season.

“Inter are inferior to last year’s. Lukaku and Hakimi were two beautiful players that you can’t replace. Dzeko is certainly doing well, but Inter doesn’t have the same strength as the one who won the Scudetto.”

Despite this strong opinion, Sandro Mazzola does feel that Simone Inzaghi is doing a good job as the coach of Inter this season and should be given lots of time.

“He’s a great coach, he’s doing a good job. You have to give him time and the results will show.”

As for Inter’s huge match against Juventus on Sunday evening at San Siro, Sandro Mazzola believes that only the team who wins can consider themselves in the title race this season.

He also added that the 56,000 strong crowd at San Siro could have a serious effect on the game in Inter’s favour as the atmosphere will be very good.

“Only those who win the three points can still hope to do something. The San Siro crowd can be a factor: when they are full and invoke you in that way, a fantastic atmosphere is created for the team.”
