Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be hoping that this evening’s Serie A clash will be a turning point for his team and that a win will set the tone for the rest of the season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the match could represent an important moment in their season as the same fixture did for Antonio Conte’s edition of the team last campaign.

Inter have enjoyed a fairly strong start to the campaign, but a loss to Lazio last weekends leaves them five and seven points adrift of AC Milan and Napoli respectively in the Serie A table while they are still very much fighting for qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League despite a crucial victory against Sheriff Tiraspol.

Last season the Nerazzurri had also had a start to the season which saw them struggle to assert dominance in the Scudetto race, while Conte’s team also finished bottom of their Champions League group.

A 2-0 win against the Bianconeri at the San Siro, however, proved to be one of the most important moments in Conte’s tenure at the club, seeing them emphatically defeat a major rival and go on to achieve the needed results for virtually the entire rest of the season.

Inzaghi will want his team to come up with a similar performance and result, and then to go on in a similar fashion in the upcoming Milan derby, against Napoli, and in other crucial games for the rest of the season.
