Inter and AC Milan met with newly re-elected Milan Mayor Beppe Sala this morning to advance the proposed new San Siro to be built, and among their agenda was conclusively deciding on an architectural design firm for the project.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the firm Populous are the favourites for the contract ahead of the joint proposal by Manica and Sportium and that the clubs hope to start construction on the stadium by the end of 2022.

With the civic elections in Milan now out of the way, Inter and Milan can resume the process of working with the city council to approve the proposed new stadium.

One of the key matters left to decide upon is the design to use, with Populous’s “Cathedreal” currently thought to be ahead of Manica and Sportium’s “Gli Anelli di Milan” in the running to be selected.
