Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi believes that his side performed well but in the end dropped two points in disappointing circumstances thanks to a late penalty against Juventus.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the Nerazzurri boss gave the view that his team deserved a win for their performance but that they needed to have been more careful when a penalty was awarded against them late in the second half.

Inter took the lead early on in the match through Edin Dzeko when the Bosnian turned in the rebound of a Hakan Calhanoglu strike which hit the post, after which they sought to protect their advantage.

Inzaghi’s men denied the Bianconeri space and managed to restrict them from creating many chances even as they probed for an equalizer.

In the end, the Nerazzurri’s defensive work was undone by the late penalty awarded by VAR for a clumsy challenge by Denzel Dumfries which made contact with the left of Juventus left-back Alex Sandro.

Inzaghi stated of his reaction to the match, “It starts with performance. We will clearly analyze the final episode because an experienced team like ours in these situations must be more careful.”

“These are absolutely two points lost,” he went on, “we would have deserved a lot more. But unfortunately this is football, made up of episodes and the episodes have been against us.”

“We will restart from the performance, we know we need to improve and we will try to analyze moments and situations. Tonight I have little to blame the guys for apart from what happened in the 89th minute,” he reflected.

The coach concluded that “We will have a match in two days, a very important and tough match against a strong team. We will have to be good at keeping ourselves organized in the best possible way.”
