Inter defender Stefan de Vrij regrets not being able to see out yesterday’s Serie A match against Juventus in which his team had been ahead for much of the match.

Speaking to InterTV after the match the Dutchman stated that he was happy with how the team had played but that he was disappointed about the result.

Inter took an early lead through Edin Dzeko when the Bosnian turned in the rebound of a Hakan Calhanoglu shot that had hit the post, and they looked to be seeing out the match protecting their slender advantage.

The Bianconeri quickened the pace in the second half as they probed for an equalizer, but the Nerazzurri held firm and denied them any clear goalscoring chances.

In the end a controversial late penalty gave Juventus their chance to take a point from the match, and de Vrij is disappointed that the Nerazzurri couldn’t take all three points from the clash, but he felt that his team defended well.

“I think that when you are ahead in the eightieth minute you have to bring it home,” he stated. “We conceded very little and we had to bring it home. There is so much regret about the goal we conceded at the end.”

On Wednesday’s clash with Empoli he stated that “It will be vital to win. We will go there to win.”

“The disappointment with the result remains,” he said. “We wanted to win, we showed it. We conceded little but unfortunately we allowed a goal towards the end.”

He closed with a message to the fans, “Thanks for the support, you’re always there. Thanks for everything.”
