Inter played a 1-1 draw against Juventus at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan’s San Siro District after a penalty was invented in the 89th minute by Marco Guida in the VAR room.

The Nerazzurri dominated the first half and took the lead after an Edin Dzeko goal who latched home a rebound from a Hakan Calhanoglu shot hitting the post.

In the second half Inter defended too deep to soon giving the initiative to Juventus who took over more and more, but looked defensively very solid.

That is until Marco Guida in the VAR room and Maurizio Mariani decided to invent a penalty for Juventus in the 89th minute.

Samir Handanovic – 5,5: A liability and risk from the start of the game until the end. You can tell within the first 120 seconds what kind of a game he will have.

Milan Skriniar – 6,5: A leader & giant in defence from start to finish. When the balance of the team is right, he is a wall. His passing let him down at times.

Stefan De Vrij – 6,5: When injured early in the 1st half every Inter fan grasped for air, but thankfully he wasn’t seriously injured & continued playing on.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6: A step forward for the young defender who looks better than he has all season. Got his positioning spot on but not active in attack.

Matteo Darmian – 7: Very good performance by the utility man who is becoming somewhat of Mr. Dependable. Interpreted both positions great defensively.

Nicolo Barella – 6,5: Started somewhat slowly but worked his way into the match & was everywhere in the 2nd half. Came off at the end when exhausted.

Marcelo Brozovic – 6,5: Did very well despite being hounded by Kulusevski for about an hour or so. Inter’s focal point defensively and offensively.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 6: Had some great individual bursts of quality, one of which led to the goal but still looking a bit out of place in this system next to Brozo.

Ivan Perisic – 7: So important when he is in this form. Leads Inter thanks to his experience & quality despite being played somewhat out of position.

Lautaro Martinez – 6: Worked in the quiet today until there was nothing left in the tank. Had a more defensive and peripheral role than we’re used to.

Edin Dzeko – 7: The success story continues with yet another goal. Works his socks off by helping out his team in defence and leading by example.

Roberto Gagliardini – 6,5: Came on in the 61st minute replacing Calhanoglu and did what he had to do without much fuss. Solid defensively.

Alexis Sanchez – 6: Replaced Lautaro Martinez in the 72nd minute & provided just the kind of breathing space Inter needed with his ability to hold up ball.

Denzel Dumfries – 5,5: Substituted on in the 72nd minute replacing Ivan Perisic. Had a bad game & gave the perfect excuse for the invention of the penalty.

Matias Vecino – N/A: Brought on in the 90th minute for an exhausted Barella. Didn’t play long enough to be able to be rated.

Simone Inzaghi – 6: Got the tactics spot on from the start but the approach in the 2nd half was too cowardly especially as Juventus were there for the taking.

Maurizio Mariani – 0: Said on #StudioInter podcast last week: “Inter isn’t allowed to win vs Juventus. They will invent a penalty.” And they did. As always.

Inter – 6,5: Played well in the first half but dropped too deep too early giving the initiative to Juventus. Looked solid defensively for 90 minutes.
