Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti has affirmed the club’s commitment to social responsibility while participating in the WEmbrace charity event aimed at inclusion and anti-racism in sport.

Speaking at the event, as reported by FCInterNews, the Argentine explained that social responsibility is an important value for the Nerazzurri, who take the integration of sport and social issues seriously.

The issue of racism in sport is linked to the wider problem of racism in society, and while sport can be a means of breaking down barriers and promoting inclusion, it can also be a vehicle for discrimination.

This is highlighted by recent controversial instances of fan racism directed at players in Serie A among other problems in the Italian game.

For this reason, Zanetti feels that participation in events such as WEmbrace Sport is an important part of the fundamental values of the Nerazzurri as a club and something he wants to represent:

“Inter, as in many social responsibility initiatives, always wants to be involved,” he stated. “I believe that the fact of being here, beyond the esteem for Bebe Vio, is important to send a strong message.”
