Italian journalist Luigi Garlando believes that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will have regretted the decision to replace Ivan Perisic with Denzel Dumfries in the second half of the Nerazzurri’s clash with Juventus on Sunday.
Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the journalist suggested that the change played a big part in the Nerazzurri dropping points in the head-to-head clash.
Inter had to settle for a point after a late equalizer by the Bianconeri following a penalty conceded by Dumfries on Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, with the Dutchman having arrived on the pitch as a substitute.
Perisic had been having a strong game on the left but he appeared to be suffering from some fatigue and was on a yellow card so the coach decided to shift Matteo Darmian over to his side of the pitch and put Dumfries on the right.
Garlando believes that Inzaghi will have to “hide his regret for having removed Perisic, who however was tired, for the instinctive Dumfries, who committed the foul for the penalty.”
Of the penalty he writes that “If the one in May on Cuadrado wasn’t looked at, this one is, even though it was unearthed through the lens of the entomologist.”
“Inter frustrated and furious (Inzaghi sent off),” he continues. “By the logic of the pitch they would have deserved the victory: they played more and better. From two significant games, which at a certain point they had in hand (Lazio and Juve) they got only one point. And not because of fate.”
