Talks are moving along with Milan mayor Beppe Sala as Inter and AC Milan seek to move forward with the proposed new San Siro in Milan.

This according to the newly re-elected Sala who spoke to the press after talks with the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri, as reported by FCInterNews, and stated that the discussions had been fruitful and that progress was made.

The construction of a new San Siro is seen as a major part of the agenda for the Nerazzurri going forward, with the improvement in infrastructure and the increase of revenues both key for the club as well as for city rivals Milan.

Talks were put on hold during the civic elections earlier this month, but now that the composition of the new city council is known and Sala has been confirmed to stay on as Mayor, the clubs will be able to keep pressing forward, and Sala reports that talks are fruitful.

“The will to move forward is there,” he stated, “obviously we must take into account everyone’s interests and therefore we are looking for a solution that can be compatible. But I consider today’s meeting to have been positive, certainly a great step forward, we will meet again in a week.”

Asked whether the talks were headed in the right direction Sala stated, “”I think so. We have an interest in moving forward because I understand the teams’ reasons – to compete at an international level you need a modern stadium.”

“In turn,” he continued, “I have to make them understand our concerns, that is, that the project is acceptable in terms of sustainability. But I believe that if we both take a step towards each other we can reach a positive outcome.”

On the question of extra funding to see the new stadium more integrated with the surrounding neighbourhood the Mayor stated that “It’s one of the variables we’re discussing, but I can’t anticipate much.”

Moving on to football he spoke about the success of Inter striker Edin Dzeko this season, stating that “”I am a big fan of Dzeko and I expected this. Obviously I hope for something better for Inter but this year I see a very balanced league, I don’t see a particular favourite.”

“Then unfortunately we return to the stadium theme,” he went on, “when you happen to see a game in the English league particularly you see the difference objectively. Having said that, I’m a super fan of Dzeko, I’m very happy.”

Sala gave the view that “Inter are a good team but compared to last year I don’t see a big gap with the other teams. I think Milan, Napoli, Juve and Inter can compete for the Scudetto. I don’t want to exclude the others but these seem to me to be the most serious contenders.”

And asked about the InterSpac project for fan ownership at the Nerazzurri he stated, “”I have a position of observing because there the question is whether this option is interesting for Inter or not, but it is an internal problem.”
