Former Napoli, Atalanta, and Palermo coach Bortolo Mutti believes that Inter are still one of the main teams contending for the Scudetto this season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, the 67-year-old gave the view that the Nerazzurri continue to have the strength to fight for the Serie A title over the long haul.

Inter have gotten off to a decent start to their Scudetto defense, though they sit seven points behind Napoli and ten behind city rivals AC Milan who have played one extra game.

The Nerazzurri have looked to cope with the losses of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku and the switch in coaches from Antonio Conte to Simone Inzaghi fairly well, although they must still show that they can navigate the difficult season as a group and keep pace at the top end of the table.

Mutti feels that the quality is there, however, and that Inzaghi’s team will be able to contend throughout the season.

“Inter are last year’s team with some different interpreters,” he stated. “I expect Inter to still be a favourite, but they have lost massive players like Lukaku and Hakimi. They are behind, but the season is long.”
