Inter assistant coach Massimiliano Farris is happy with how his team played and glad that they got the result they needed when they faced Empoli in Tuscany earlier this evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Farris expressed satisfaction with his players and singled out Alexis Sanchez for praise on his first start of the campaign.

Inter will have known that the match against Empoli would not be straightforward even though it is the Tuscans’ first season back, with Aurelio Andreazzoli’s men having already achieved a shock win over Juventus at home en route to the midtable position they currently occupy.

However, the Nerazzurri played with confidence, both the regular starters and the players who were rotated into the side, and they managed a clean sheet and two goals which they were well worth in attack.

Farris was on the touchline in place of Simone Inzaghi who was suspended for the match after the red card he received while facing Juventus on Sunday, and he was happy with what he saw on the pitch.

“We are satisfied because the team did what they needed to do,” Faris stated. “Empoli are good, we did well making them run when we had the ball.

“Very happy for D’Ambrosio and Dimarco’s goals, which aren’t necessarily the players you expect them from. I’m sorry for Lautaro who didn’t score, but there are many matches.”

He went on that “There will be more. We have made some changes, everyone will have to be ready. It is understandable that Sanchez regrets not scoring since so far he hasn’t had many chances.

“Everyone has to keep at it and everyone has to be strong and pushing together.”

Of the rotated starting eleven chosen for the match Farris explained that “We tried to avoid the risk of fatigue with some targeted rotation, because we can’t suffer an upset.”

“Lautaro put in a very good performance,” he went on, “then it is clear that we can expect more from such a player. He was not happy to come off as is normal, we hope that he’ll be able to get his goals in the next few matches.”

“The formation is the same,” he said.

“Then the team at the end of the transfer market changed, we made some adjustments.

“We know very well that the situation is different compared to Lazio, we have to get to the position where we belong and in any case we are up there. Our work is not finished, we know we have to produce results.”

Of Alexis Sanchez who made his first start of the campaign, Farris stated that “He knows how to play very well between the lines. But Correa does as well. Then Dzeko is a fantastic attacker and a playmaker.”

“Alexis has the bit of genius,” he went on, “the spark: just look at the champion play such as his assist for D’Ambrosio.

“The whole team has produced tonight, even with different players than usual.”

On improvements that need to be made to the team the assistant coach stated, “We talked a little bit about everything and perhaps at a certain moment the team, due to too much enthusiasm, lacked balance.

“Against Juve, on the other hand, the team managed very well.”

“Then closing out the games is not easy,” he went on, “against Juve even less so. There will be moments in which it will be necessary to suffer and others in which cynicism will be needed.

“Against Atalanta there was a missed penalty, against Real we did not manage to get the result, and then Juve: we must grow from this.”
