Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio feels confident that the team are heading in the right direction under head coach Simone Inzaghi.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after his team’s 2-0 win over Empoli, the 33-year-old praised the tactical vision of the former Lazio coach and explained that he is building on the work of former boss Antonio Conte.

Inzaghi has had a tough task in taking over from Conte, with the departed manager having delivered the first Scudetto in eleven years to the club and done so in impressive style.

Not everything has gone Inter’s way at times this season as they have looked to make the transition from one manager’s vision to another, but most of the signs have been positive with the confident win over Empoli one more example.

D’Ambrosio explained how so much of this can be put down to the togetherness and mentality that the Nerazzurri have developed as a squad.

“For some years we have not been approaching things as an ‘I’ but as an ‘us’, and that’s what helped us reach a European final and win a Scudetto,” the defender explained.

On the Scudetto race he stated that “We have to think about ourselves. Last year we were also on this wavelength. We have to find the right balance, which is important.

“In front of us we have players capable of deciding a game with a play, as demonstrated by Sanchez’s pass for me tonight.”

“We must not concede goal’s, because sooner or later we will score,” he went on.

“We must congratulate the club, which has intervened in a certain way both on the bench and in the playing squad.

“The change of mentality is evident to everyone. When Conte arrived there was a change that we are still trying to carry out, also with brilliant ideas like those of Inzaghi. In my opinion we are on the right path.”
