Former Inter defender Marco Andreolli believes that his friend and former teammate Andrea Ranocchia is still in a good position at the club because of his hard work and attitude.

Speaking to InterTV before the Nerazzurri’s match against Udinese, Ranocchia’s first start of the campaign, Andreoli praised the 33-year-old for continually fighting for his place and keeping his performance levels high.

Ranocchia has not always been seen as living up to expectations at Inter, with the defender having been given the captain’s armband during the 2014-15 season, a difficult period for the club.

The 33-year-old was even sent out on loan, to Hull City during the second half of the 2016-17 campaign, and many felt at various points that his time at the Nerazzurri was up.

However, he has remained, getting his hands on the Scudetto last season, and showing this afternoon against Udinese what he is still capable of with a fine performance to help keep a clean sheet.

Andreolli praised Ranocchia for his continued achievements, stating that “I know him well, we were roommates. We shared difficult years for him where he inherited an armband that at that moment was heavy and, in my opinion, some unfair criticism came towards him.”

“Having seen him closely,” he went on, “I know how much he struggled at that moment and I am happy with how, in these past two seasons, he has found the serenity that every player must have when he is called into question to express themselves in the best possible way.”
