Inter Defender Andrea Ranocchia: “Scudetto? We Have To Continue Picking Up Points Like This”

Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia believes that the Nerazzurri must focus on getting points from each match before they can think about the Scudetto.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after helping his team to a 2-0 win over Udinese, the 33-year-old emphasized the importance of approaching the season one match at a time.

Inter made it two wins from their last two matches, with 2-0 wins against the likes of Empoli and now Udinese seeing the team in a strong position.

There are more and bigger challenges to come, however, and the Nerazzurri are trying to be confident about each individual match and focused and prepared.

Against Udinese they played the game they needed to against an organized and compact opponent, and this is what they will have to keep doing in order to try and defend the Scudetto.

Ranocchia was happy with how his team played to get three points against Udinese, stating  that it was “Important because we have continuity of results. It gives us the opportunity to also go to Moldova with out heads held high. Excellent performance, creating a lot and conceding little.”

On coming into the team as a rotation option he said that “Above all, we need to be ready, and here it happens with everyone. We give the coach certainty when we are called into question. The important thing is to continue to grind points out.”

On the supposed belief the team has in the Scudetto Ranocchia said, “Honestly, I never felt it inside the locker room. Maybe outside, because in the interviews they say what is convenient to say. We just have to keep collecting points like this, especially because the other teams are doing well.”

Of AC Milan and Napoli, the league leaders, he said that “They are following an identical path. Personally I was more impressed by Napoli, but the season is very long and we have to stay up there.”

Asked about the comparison between Simone Inzaghi and Antonio Conte he said, “We are working very well with Mr. Inzaghi, I have never liked talking about past coaches. Inzaghi has an excellent relationship with everyone, both personal and technical. He always gives us the right instruction.”
