Inter are set to offer a one-year contract extension to captain Samir Handanovic, though at reduced salary terms.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the 37-year-old will be offered a renewal beyond next summer, but that the net €3.5 million per season he currently earns will be reduced to €2 million net plus add-ons.

Handanovic’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June 2022 and the Nerazzurri are widely reported to be close to an agreement to bring Ajax Andre Onana in next summer as his long-term replacement.

However, the club could still keep the Slovenian on, though they would only do so on reduced terms, similar to the extensions offered to the likes of Andrea Ranocchia and Aleksandar Kolarov, and offered but not accepted by Ashley Young, last summer.

It remains to be seen if the Nerazzurri captain decides to accept the offer or move on, but it will be his decision to make.
