Inter are close to agreeing a contract extension with Nicolo Barella, and could officially announce the midfielder’s new deal as soon as this Thursday.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that only details remain and that the renewal with the 24-year-old should be wrapped up in the coming days.

Barella’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June 2024, but the club are hoping to hand the player a new deal with a wage increase that reflects his importance at the club, and to ward off the attentions of other major European clubs.

To this end, the midfielder is reportedly close to committing his future to the Nerazzurri by signing a new contract which will take him until the end of June 2026 at the club.

Barella will earn a net of €4.5 million plus add-ons on his new deal, which should be announced very shortly.
