Inter have managed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last two matches in Serie A, and this could prove crucial to their season going forward.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who highlight the Nerazzurri’s recent defensive record coming after their notable failure to prevent goals earlier in the season.

In the early part of the season Inter’s attacking qualities were never in question as they had by far the best goalscoring record in Serie A, but the concession of goals seemed almost a given for the team as they had to outscore opponents to take points from games.

The team have looked to tighten up their approach, and in their recent wins over Empoli and Udinese they have gone 180 minutes without conceding a goal.

This is in many ways more significant than the two goals which they scored in each of the wins, as finding the back of the net has never been a problem for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter.

Not only this, but in their matches against Sheriff Tiraspol and Juventus, the Nerazzurri conceded only one goal in each, with both coming from set pieces (a direct free kick and a penalty respectively), meaning that it has been more than six hours of play since Inter conceded from open play.

Inzaghi will hope that this is a trend that continues and that they can keep playing with this defensive solidity as they come to a vital Champions League clash with Sheriff and then Serie A matches against league leaders AC Milan and then Napoli.
