Legendary former striker Antonio Conte hopes to see Alexis Sanchez played as an attacking midfielder for Inter in the near future.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the 39-year-old suggested that with Hakan Calhanoglu failing to really make the Number Ten role his own the Chilean could be tested out in the position.

Sanchez made his first start of the campaign against Empoli and came off the bench again against Udinese, with Simone Inzaghi starting to see the 32-year-old as a significant part of the team now that he is fully fit.

However, all of the Chilean’s appearances so far have come as part of an attacking duo, and Cassano is of the view that it would be worth trying to use him in more of a Number Ten role.

He wants to see Sanchez playing in the midfield trio and acting as a creative force from deeper on the pitch.

“I would like to see Brozovic, Barella and Sanchez behind Lautaro and Dzeko,” he stated. “3-4-1-2 because I’m considering a little bit about Sanchez’s position. We know that Sanchez is a top player, Calhanoglu is struggling. Even Gagliardini too, they are struggling.”

He went on that “I’d like to see Sanchez as an attacking midfielder, he could be a turning point in the future. I find Calhanoglu’s game predictable, he plays stuff that isn’t needed.”
