Inter striker Edin Dzeko has become one of the Nerazzurri’s most significant players, and he is set to be someone the club rely on ahead of a massive week which sees them face Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League and then AC Milan in the derby.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who highlight the successful marriage between striker and club since the Nerazzurri decided to take the risk on the 35-year-old in the summer.

Dzeko had a strong reputation when he was signed by the Nerazzurri, having made significant contributions to the likes of Wolfsburg and Manchester City before showing his quality in Serie A with Roma for the past six seasons.

However, given the striker’s age, there were doubts about whether he would be able to take up a significant role in the Nerazurri team given their status as Italian champions and ambitions for the season.

So far the Bosnian has put these doubts to rest, however, forming a good understanding with coach Simone Inzaghi and making an instant impact on the pitch.

The striker’s physical conditioning has been a key aspect of his longevity, with his avoidance of muscle injuries meaning that he is a player who can virtually always be relied upon in addition to his qualities in his position.

This reliability will be a major factor as the Nerazzurri face Sheriff in the Champions League tomorrow as they look to build on their foothold in the group and take a step towards the knockout rounds, and then again when they confront a massive first Milan derby of the campaign on Sunday.
