Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia believes that the initiative is with his team to get a result when they face Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League later this evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia ahead of the match, the 33-year-old emphasized the importance of the Nerazzurri taking the game to the hosts and being proactive about getting three points from the vital clash.

Inter have already beaten Sheriff once, winning two weeks ago at the San Siro to register their first victory of the campaign, but they have it all to do again this evening.

Sheriff have beaten Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid already and, despite having gotten the better of them in the reverse fixture, Inter know that the Moldovan champions can find a result this time around.

Ranocchia believes that it is up to the Nerazzurri to show all their quality and take the points from this fixture.

“We will need compactness, we need to move the ball quickly and not lose possession because the counter is one of their best qualities, having fast and technical players, so we will not have to concede many counters,” he said. “It all depends on us, on how we approach the game and on how much desire we put into bringing home the three points.”

He went on, “Let’s not underestimate the opponent, who are fearsome and playing at home, they will also have an extra boost; we must do what we came here for, which is to win the game and give everything we can.”
