Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic believes that his team have managed to gain some control in their Champions League group with this evening’s defeat of Sheriff Tiraspol.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the 28-year-old emphasized that with the win the Nerazzurri are now in a position where they will not have to rely on events outside them to see them through to the knockout round of Europe’s top competition.

Inter finished the first half at the Sheriff Stadium deadlocked having been unable to find the back of the net despite dominating possession, but Brozovic finally put his team ahead in the second half with a well-taken goal from outside the penalty area.

The Nerazzurri went on to win the counter 3-1, and now they find themselves on seven points, two behind group leaders Real Madrid but one ahead of Sheriff.

This means that, despite the disappointing start to their group stage campaign, the Nerazzurri are in a position where they know that if they can get the job done in their next two matches they will get out of the group.

“Now we are masters of our own destiny,” Brozovic stated, “the only thing that mattered was to win. We played well, conceded little, we are very happy.”

He went on that “The coach told us to be patient and to move the ball quickly, then we would have scored 100%.”

He concluded about the derby against AC Milan on Sunday that “The only thing that matters is to win and we want to win the derby too.”
