Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio has reiterated that the Nerazzurri are doing everything to keep hold of midfielder Marcelo Brozovic beyond next summer.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia before the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash with Sheriff Tiraspol, the executive gave updates about the contract situations of key midfielder Brozovic and Nicolo Barella, emphasizing the club’s desire to keep their top players in the team.

Brozovic’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June 2022, but the club have made finding an agreement with him on an extension a priority.

No meeting has yet taken place, though Ausilio’s words suggest that the club want to do everything they can to try and renew with the 28-year-old.

Ausilio began by speaking about the importance of this evening’s match to the Nerazzurri’s season and their Champions League hopes.

He stated that “It is a difficult match, like all those in the Champions League. This team deserves the points it has gotten, they are the surprise of the group. We won in the first leg, but we know how difficult and complicated it was, now we want another three points.”

On the extensions of Brozovic and Barella he stated that “With Barella we are now working out the details, we’re talking about more about formal aspects than anything else and I am absolutely confident. About Brozovic I can only say that we have enormous desire to continue with him for longer.”

“Soon we will have a meeting with the agents and we will look for a solution,” he continued. “We want him to be part of our project in the future, but we also need to hear from him and his agents.”

And on former Inter coach Antonio Conte’s new position as head coach of Tottenham Hotspur he stated that “I am happy and I wish him the best on his new adventure, I know what enthusiasm he has and how much passion he has.”

On whether he worries that Conte could try and sign Nerazzurri players in the January transfer window Ausilio responded, “I know what our intentions are: to move forward with this group.”

“No exit will be considered in January,” he made clear, “there is quality and our coach has been working for a few months. In June we will make other assessments, but aimed at improving Inter and not weakening us.”
