Inter and Juventus could still play the Supercoppa Italian fixture in Saudi Arabia in January, but this will be dependent on whether the Saudis also buy the broadcasting rights to Serie A.

This according to New York Times football journalist Tariq Panja, who reported in a tweet that the negotiations between the league and the Saudis regarding the Supercoppa match are also based around the issue of television rights.

Inter will participate in the Supercoppa match as last season’s Scudetto winners, while the Bianconeri represent the Coppa Italia winners.

The fixture will either be hosted in Saudi Arabia or Italy, with the Saudis having been pushing to host it for some time but not yet having successfully managed to find an agreement.

Panja reports that there is no conclusive agreement found yet on whether the match will be played in Saudi Arabia or not, but that the broadcasting rights are the key issue yet to be resolved.

Panja tweeted, “Serie A delegation just back from Saudi Arabia. No decision yet on whether Super Cup between Inter and Juve will be played there in January. Seems game contingent on getting Saudis to also buy Serie A TV rights.”
