Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is ready to kick on from his team’s convincing 3-1 win over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League and get ready for the derby with AC Milan on the weekend.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the Nerazzurri’s Champions League win in Tiraspol he expressed his happiness at the performance and looked ahead to Sunday’s clash with the Rossoneri.

Inter are now halfway through an important week, having successfully taken the three points they need to bring themselves to second spot in their Champions League group and put progression to the knockout rounds into their own hands.

Up next, however, is one of the most significant matches of their season, the first Milan derby.

The head-to-head clash with the Rossoneri is always a major occasion for the fans and in Italian football, but with the Nerazzurri seven points behind their city rivals and Napoli, they will feel that gaining back some ground is vital.

Of the win over Sheriff the coach said, “Let’s say that tonight we fixed the ranking, now the fate is in our hands and we have to play the last two matches with great attention. After 10-12 shots and hitting the frame of the goal there was a risk of losing focus and instead the guys were always lucid and in the game, we made it simple.”

And of Sunday’s derby against Milan he said that “We know what game awaits us, very deeply felt by our fans and our club. We will need to prepare for it in the best possible way over the next three and a half days. We know that now the return trip is long, but we will try to recover physical and above all our mental energy.”
