AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has opened up about the time that he nearly joined Inter, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview with Sport Mediaset, Olivier Giroud explained that when the opportunity arose to join Inter a tear ago, it wasn’t the right time for him to move to Italy.

“Me close to Inter? It wasn’t the right time to go to Italy and sign with Inter.”

The fact that he then signed for AC Milan instead a year later is viewed by the player as a matter of destiny.

“Signing for AC Milan the following year, I think it was written in my destiny and that I signed for them.”

Olivier Giroud has entered a regular rotation in the AC Milan squad with former Inter striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

When asked about the Swedish striker, it is clear that Olivier Giroud has an immense amount of admiration for him.

“He is a great athlete and a great person, respected in the locker room. He has great charisma, a great player. Outside of the field he is a normal person.”

It is looking more likely that it will be Zlatan Ibrahimovic who leads the line against Inter in the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday evening rather than the Frenchman who used to play for Arsenal and Chelsea.
