Former AC Milan defender Mauro Bressan has suggested that the upcoming Derby della Madonnina is more important for Inter than the Rossoneri, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during an interview with TMW, Mauro Bressan explained that because of the seven point gap between AC Milan and Inter, it is much more vital for Inter to get the three points to close the gap.

“The derby is more important for Inter because if they draw or lose, one can think that the Milan-Napoli duo can go on the run.”

AC Milan and Napoli have been the two best sides in Serie A this season and they both sit on 31 points after 11 matches.

Inter are 24 points so if they beat AC Milan on Sunday evening, they will be right back in the hunt for the Scudetto. A defeat though, will leave them 10 points adrift.

AC Milan have had a very disappointing Champions League campaign having picked up just one point from their first four matches in the group stage.

Mauro Bressan believes they seem to have a different mentality in the two competitions.

“It seems to me that Milan in the league has other emotions, the players are more energized. The fact of having few chances to go through has affected the players’ heads.

“It is clear that Milan are hoping to pass the group but if they leave and do not even have Europe League they would only have the league to focus on.”
