Former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi has suggested that Inter are not the same team without Romelu Lukaku now that he has left, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport in Italy, via FCInter1908, Beppe Bergomi explained that losing a player who is as dominant as Romelu Lukaku will always make a team weaker.

“Inter have a different pack of strikers. When you lose a dominant player like Lukaku you are weaker, although with Dzeko the manoeuvre is improved.

“The way of attacking has completely changed. Lukaku is dominant, like Osihmen this year. You struggle to mark them, they are charismatic leaders. Compared to last year they have something less in attack.”

Inter have struggled this season with their defensive record as they were simply letting too many goals in. Despite this, they were still scoring more goals than almost anyone.

In their last few matches in the Champions League and Serie A, though, they have conceded much less and looked a lot more solid than before.

Beppe Bergomi believes that that is down to an attitude change, saying: “Inter arrives after a good victory in the Champions League. Inter have changed their attitude because they were suffering too many goals.”

He also talked about how the set piece capabilities of Federico Dimarco and Hakan Calhanoglu means that there is only ever one of them in the starting eleven.

“In Inter if Dimarco plays Calhanoglu does not play or vice versa. One is always on the field for set pieces, I think Calhanoglu can play. Vidal is doing well.”
