It is expected that Inter will officially announce the contract extension of Nicolo Barella on Friday ahead of the Milan derby, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Sardinian midfielder will sign the contract at the club’s headquarters before it is then officially announced to the Nerazzurri fans.

The new contract will keep the 24-year-old at the club until 2026, which is three years longer than his current contract stipulates.

The renewal will boost the morale and energy around the squad and the whole club ahead of the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday evening.

The announcement will follow Lautaro Martinez’s that took place last Friday, and represents Inter’s desire to tie their best young players down to new contracts to ward off interest from other clubs.

Nicolo Barella had been attracting interest from clubs such as Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain.
