Inter vice president and former player Javier Zanetti has spoken about the importance of qualifying for the next round of the Champions League, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Whilst speaking live on the Instagram channel of Mastercardlatam, via FCInternews, Javier Zanetti emphasised that Inter must win the next match if they are to progress to the knockout stages, and that it would be very important for the club.

“For us as Inter, for the situation we are in, it will depend on the next match. By winning we would ensure the qualification and it would be very important.”

Inter have won both of their games against FC Sheriff to put themselves in a great position to reach the next round. A win against Shakhtar Donetsk would prove decisive for the Nerazzurri to qualify for the first time since 2011.

Javier Zanetti also discussed some of his favourite strikers from his time at Inter, as he was asked about the quality of Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski.

“The only one that comes to mind is Ronaldo, Il Fenomeno, who could change the game at any time. Indeed, then I remember one who in Italy they called Lethal Weapon‘, Hernan Crespo: a great goalscorer.

“And Diego Milito, decisive with his goals when we won the Champions League in 2010. Three lethal players.”

Javier Zanetti played 615 times for Inter during his career and scored 12 goals.
