Former Inter and AC Milan defender Fulvio Collovati believes that the Rossoneri have significant quality but that the Nerazzurri have the psychological advantage in tomorrow’s derby.

Speaking to to Milan-based newspaper Libero in an interview published in today’s print edition, the former defender highlighted the significance of Inter’s better form in the Champions League as giving them confidence and momentum going into the match.

Both the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri can boast significant quality in their squads, and both teams have showed themselves to be formidable sides in Serie A.

Inter have dropped only nine points from their first eleven matches, but it is their city rivals who have looked especially impressive, dropping only two points to sit top of the table alongside Napoli.

However, the two teams have had differing form in the Champions League, with the Nerazzurri turning around a rough start to sit second in their group on seven points, and the Rossoneri on one point and looking extremely unlikely to qualify for the knockout rounds.

“Milan are top of the table, but they pay the price of a possible elimination in the Champions League,” Collovati stated. “Inter are down by seven, but psychologically they are better off and have a deeper squad for spare parts.”

He went on that “Costacurta is right when he says that not winning in Europe can lead to mental lapses.”

On who he expects to decide the match, he stated that “It’s too easy to say Ibra or Lautaro Martinez. But the derby can also be decided by unlikely people: a header from Tomori or a shot of the former Rossoneri player Calhanoglu.”
