Inter-linked goalkeeper Andre Onana will be eligible to make his return to football this week, and he is expected to be on the bench for Ajax in their match this weekend.

This according to today’s print edition of Dutch newspaper AD, who report that the Cameroonian will be included in the Dutch champions’ squad to face Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivisie tomorrow.

Onana is widely reported to be the Nerazzurri’s priority target to replace Samir Handanovic on a long-term basis, and the club could secure an agreement to sign him on a free transfer next summer when he is out of contract with Ajax.

The 25-year-old has missed the past year of football through a doping ban, but he will now be allowed to make his return now that his suspension is over.

The Nerazzurri will be keeping an eye on Onana’s situation in the Dutch capital, as he is not expected to immediately make his return to the bench but could instead be on the bench for some time.
