Italian Journalist Maurizio Pistocchi: “PIF Negotiating To Buy Inter, Suning Will Have To Sell”

Inter could have to be sold to new owners by current owners Suning due to the Chinese company’s financial situation, and the Saudi Private Investment Fund are still in talks on a potential sale.

This according to Italian journalist Maurizio Pistocchi, who spoke to Italian news outlet Passione Inter and gave the view that the PIF could still buy the club.

A few weeks ago reports came out that the PIF were in advanced talks to acquire the Nerazzurri in a deal worth around €1 billion dollars, though they were met with denials and nothing came of them as of yet.

Suning signalled their commitment to running the Nerazzurri as they have been, while the PIF have been working at Premier League club Newcastle United, who they acquired last month.

However, Pistocchi believes that there are still major factors in place which could lead to Suning selling the club, and that the PIF are still looking to buy it.

“The idea I have is that the Zhangs can no longer keep Inter,” he stated. “For economic but also political reasons. And that there is a standing and realistic negotiation with PIF, the Saudi Arabian fund. It is a negotiation of which they often speak to me in Milanese circles, and people from different backgrounds.”

“So it comes from multiple sources… one clue is a clue, two clues are a coincidence but three clues are proof. And therefore the three clues are proof,” he went on.

Pistocchi explained that there are “Not there are many alternatives as well because, if the PIF fund were not to buy the club, Inter would become the property of Oaktree. Suning cannot repay the €275 million loan. This goes beyond the speeches made by Steven Zhang.”

“The situation Suning has found itself in means that the sale of Inter is a very probable hypothesis,” he concluded. “And the PIF could also intervene in the San Siro question.”
