Former Inter and AC Milan striker Giampaolo Pazzini believes that even if the Nerazzurri are to lose the Milan derby against the Rossoneri, they can still keep themselves in the Scudetto race.

Speaking to Italian newspaper Quotidiano Sportivo in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, the 37-year-old gave his appraisal of the two sides and of the significance of the derby ahead of the match.

The Nerazzurri come into the first Milan derby of the season seven points behind their city rivals, who have remarkably only dropped two points over the course of the campaign so far.

The match, in addition to the significance it always carries for the fans, also presents an opportunity for Inter to reduce the deficit to four points, and for Milan to go ten points clear of the Nerazzurri.

Pazzini does not believe that the Nerazzurri will necessarily be too far back to come back and win the Scudetto even if they are to go ten points behind, however.

“If Milan were to win ten points it would be a wide margin,” he stated, “but the season is long. Everything would still be to play for.”
