A decision will be made on whether to hold the Supercoppa Italiana match between Inter and Juventus in Saudi Arabia in Milan sometime after Thursday of this week.

This according to Lega Serie A President Paolo Dal Pino, who explained on Rai Radio program “La Politica Nel Pallone” that a delegation from the league led by CEO Luigi De Siervo were in Saudi Arabia where they discussed the possibility of holding the match there and that the decision will be made in the coming days.

Inter are participating in the Supercoppa match as last season’s Scudetto winners, while the Bianconeri represent the Coppa Italia in the match as last season’s winners of the competition.

Saudi Arabia have been hoping to be the hosts for the competition, but have been unable to secure it due to problems involving broadcasting rights of Serie A.

The alternative plan is for the fixture to be held in Milan, but it remains to be seen if Saudi Arabia will still be able to agree a deal with Serie A which would see them host it.

Dal Pino began by congratulating Inter and AC Milan on the progress made towards a new stadium, stating that “I saw the Santiago Bernabeu project, beautiful. That is the direction, it is the dream. Milan has taken a path, we are happy that Inter and Milan can count on the realization of the project, but it is only one city.”

“The problem is that it will take many more years of what our foreign colleagues take,” he went on. “Congratulations to Milan, we have been discussing this in Rome for years and nothing has been reached.”

He went on that “We are happy to see politicians at the stadium when they give out the titles or the national team that won the European championships is awarded. But this is an industry that can generate even more GDP than today, where today there are projects of foreign entrepreneurs who have very significant resources ready, it should not be possible that there is bureaucracy with which we have to clash.”

“We must eliminate the demagogy regarding football, we must start looking at this sport as an industry that can help economically,” he went on.

And on the Supercoppa match he updated that “The CEO Luigi De Siervo was in Saudi Arabia last week, at the moment the alternatives are to play in Milan or in Saudi Arabia. This week we will have a Board of Directors and we will have to make a final decision. We will know after Thursday.”
