Italian transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Inter wanted to sign Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne in the summer, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media today.
Speaking whilst on Sky Sport in Italy, via FCInternews, Gianluca Di Marzio explained that Inter were very keen on bringing the Napoli forward to the club but they needed Alexis Sanchez to leave to free up space and wages.
“Inter wanted to sign him but Alexis Sanchez had to leave. Today there are no negotiations.”
Alexis Sanchez is one of the two highest earners at Inter right now and it is becoming clear that without his departure, Inter cannot make any major signings in the attacking department.
Lorenzo Insigne will be out of contract in June 2022 at Napoli and so far a deal does not seem very close to keep him with the Azzurri.
Inter are one of many clubs waiting in the wings to see if they can pounce on the Italian star’s availability in the summer window.
