Former Italy head coach Gian Piero Ventura has suggested that any of the teams near the top of the table could still win Serie A as it is an open race, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with Tuttomercatoweb.com, Gian Piero Ventura explained that any team can still win the title but said that Napoli are going to suffer when they lose players to the African Cup of Nations after Christmas.

“The title is open to any team. Napoli is a bit penalized by the Africa Cup which will take important players away from them.”

The former coach also added that AC Milan are looking very compact team right now but it is too soon to be able to fully judge them.

“Milan, on the other hand, gives the feeling of being compact. However, the championship has only just begun. Two direct clashes are enough to change everything.”

Inter currently sit seven points behind Napoli and AC Milan. They both have 32 points and Inter will need to beat Napoli on November 21 if they are to keep the points gap at a manageable amount heading into the Christmas period.

Gian Piero Ventura also had some heavy criticism for Juventus who sit eighth in the table.

“Juventus is a team of lower quality than those of past years. Last year they only qualified for the Champions League on the last Sunday and had thirty Ronaldo goals guaranteed.

“But if you want to do a reconstruction you must know that it takes time. If you started to win the Scudetto, the quality of the squad may not allow you to do so.”
