Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella did not look at his best during his performance for the Italian national team as the Azzurri drew 1-1 with Switzerland, according to Italian media.

The 24-year-old received a middling 5/10 grade for his display in the player ratings for the 2022 World Cup qualifying clash published in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who suggest that he still looked to be affected by some fitness problems.

Barella was the only Inter player on the pitch during the match, starting in midfielder alongside Chelsea’s Jorginho and Juventus summer signing Manuel Locatelli.

The Nerazzurri midfielder did not affect the game at his usual standard, with his passing imprecise and his participation in the midfield battle against Remo Freuler and Denis Zakaria looking a challenge for him at times.

The 24-year-old was substituted off midway through the second half, and he had a match to forget as he appears to still be dealing with the fitness issues that caused him to come off during the derby against AC Milan last weekend.
