Ajax Coach Erik Ten Hag: “Inter Target Andre Onana Decided Against Contract Extension Here”

Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag has confirmed goalkeeper Andre Onana has reached a decision not to extend his contract, amidst reports he will join Inter in the summer.

In an interview with Dutch television programme Goedemorgen Oranje on ESPN earlier today, and as reported by Voetbalprimeur.nl, Ten Hag revealed that Onana had made his intentions clear to sporting director Marc Overmars.

“Of course we are not happy that he does not want to extend his contract, but he is under contract with Ajax and still has the motivation to deliver one hundred percent. We have to take advantage of that. We set up the team that is the best,” Ten Hag claimed.

The coach also admitted that it was not up to him to try to convince the Cameroon international to change his mind, rather that he would leave it to Overmars if he wished to.

“It’s not up to me, it’s up to Marc. I don’t think so, those decisions have been made. I have to work with this selection and get results right now. Whether he will leave? I think so. Not now, but in the summer.”

Inter have been tracking Onana since the summer as they seek a long-term replacement for Samir Handanovic, and will look to secure a pre-contract agreement with him in January when he is officially permitted to talk to other clubs.

The 25-year-old has just returned to competitive action after serving a nine-month doping ban.
