Inter striker Edin Dzeko is set to fly back to Milan this evening after being ruled out of Bosnia’s clash against Ukraine on Tuesday.

As reported by Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the former Roma captain has lost his battle to prove his fitness for the game in Zenica, despite undergoing medical tests and training this morning.

Dzeko had hoped to be involved as Bosnia conclude their 2022 World Cup Qualifying campaign, although qualification for Qatar is already beyond them going into the match.

The striker has been struggling with a flexor injury and missed yesterday’s 3-1 defeat to Finland, but with his fitness a doubt he has now been allowed to return to Inter early to continue his treatment with the club.

Dzeko joins Italian centre-back Alessandro Bastoni in being sent back to Inter from international duty to continue recovery, with a view to making it back in time for the Serie A clash against leaders Napoli next Sunday.
