Inter centre-back Milan Skriniar was pleased with Slovakia’s ruthlessness after securing a 6-0 win over Malta in 2022 World Cup Qualifying yesterday.

The Nerazzurri star played the full 90 minutes as Slovakia easily put Group H’s bottom team to the sword, with Malta playing much of the second half with nine men after two quick red cards.

Despite the victory ultimately proving meaningless after qualification was already out of reach before kick-off, Skriniar was happy with the manner of the win and felt that his side had approached the game in the correct way, as reported by FCInterNews.it.

“I am happy with how we started the game. We secured the result in 15 minutes, as we wanted to do,” the captain declared in an interview following the match.

“We ended the battle even when both sides had 11 players. The team has shown it’s quality and we will work hard to keep improving.”

Slovakia concluded their qualifying campaign with a third win, but ultimately fell eight points short of second-placed Russia and further point behind group winners Croatia.

Skriniar made his international debut in 2016 and the victory over Malta was his 50th cap.
