Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is facing a defensive dilemma ahead of next weekend’s Serie A clash against Napoli after Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan De Vrij picked up injuries on international duty.

As reported by FCInter1908.it, Bastoni returned early from joining up with the Italian national team and was joined by Netherlands international De Vrij, who picked up a muscle strain in the closing minutes of a 2-2 draw against Montenegro on Saturday.

The pair make up Inzaghi’s first choice defence, alongside Milan Skriniar, but are in doubt for the visit of leaders Napoli to the Stadio San Siro on Sunday.

As a result, the coach may be forced to turn to veteran duo Andrea Ranocchia and Danilo D’Ambrosio at centre-back, particularly as they are not on international duty and will be available to work on preparation for the match throughout the week.

The pair are considered reliable and important figures within the dressing room and Inzaghi has confidence in them, but wing-back Federico Dimarco is also thought to be an option.
