Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is set to rely on either Andrea Ranocchia or Danilo D’Ambrosio in defense should Stefan de Vrij be unable to play against Napoli next weekend.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who detail the Nerazzurri’s options to re-shuffle his backline should the Dutchman be unavailable through injury.

De Vrij’s muscle injury picked up towards the end of the Dutch national team’s World Cup qualifier against Montenegro on Saturday will be a worry for the Nerazzurri.

The 29-year-old has been one of the first names on the teamsheet this season, but should he be unable to return in time for the Serie A clash with Napoli there are two primary options to replace him in the team.

The first would be to make a like-for-like replacement of Andrea Ranocchia in his place in the centre of the backline.

The 33-year-old started against Empoli in the role, where he performed well, though his lack of pace could be a problem in the position.

Another possibility for the Inter coach would be relying on Milan Skriniar in the centre of defense instead of in the right-sided role that he has usually occupied.

Should Skriniar be moved into the centre of the back three, then Danilo D’Ambrosio would come in and take his place on the right.
