Italian Sporting Director and Napoli fan Luigi Pavarese believes that Inter are still the Scudetto favourites despite Napoli’s strong form over the first twelve matches of the season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Marte, Pavarese gave the view that the Partenopei have yet to really show that they have the qualities to go all the way and that the Nerazzurri can defend last season’s Scudetto crown.

Inter’s title defense has not gotten off to a bad start, but they sit seven points behind the Partenopei as well as city rivals AC Milan in the table, both of whom have won ten and drawn two of their opening twelve matches.

The Nerazzurri will be wondering how they can catch up to these two rivals given the impressive form that they’ve shown so far in the season, but Pavarese is of the view that there is still much to see and that Napoli will be tested more as the season goes on than they have been so far.

“I would wait for the match against Atalanta before I take stock,” he said of the Partenopei’s title challenge. “We have to face Inter, Lazio and Atalanta. Then we will think about Milan. However, Atalanta is one of the seven sisters and can be a mine field.”

“Inter are still the favourite for me,” he went on, “I am convinced that we will reach the top but superstitiously I will say that we have to wait.”

On whether the match between Inter and Napoli on Sunday will be decisive in the Scudetto race he stated, “No, it’s still early, but winning would be good and important.”
