Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is glad to have wrapped up qualification for the 2022 World Cup with Argentina.

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, the 24-year-old opened up about his emotions after the Albiceleste sealed qualification with a draw against Brazil, capping off a year of excellent form.

Argentina have enjoyed a strong year, with the highlight being the summer’s Copa America triumph, and they will get a chance to chase another major honour with their qualification for next year’s World Cup confirmed.

Martinez has been a regular starter for the Albiceleste in this run, and he is happy to have done so well with his country, just as he has hit some of his best form with his club.

Martinez won the Scudetto with the Nerazzurri last campaign, and this time around he looks to once again be a very important player for the Nerazzurri, signing a new contract that takes him until 2026 at the club.

“I’m happy about this great year we’re having with the national team,” he said. “The truth is that we haven’t done this well in a long time.”

“First the Copa America and now a qualification for the World Cup with four matches to spare,” he went on. “We have to continue as a squad, we are on the right path.”
