Inter legend Sandro Mazzola has suggested that defeat against Napoli would be a great blow to Inter’s hopes of retaining the Serie A title this season, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on 1 Station Radio, via FCInternews, Sandro Mazzola explained that is in Inter’s DNA to only want the victory but a defeat will be very costly in the context of the championship.

“In Inter’s DNA we only contemplate victory in such a match, also because without all three points it would complicate the Scudetto race, it would be a great blow.”

Inter are currently seven points behind Napoli so a win brings them to within four points of their title rivals. A defeat, though, will mean they are 10 points off the pace.

Sandro Mazzola also feels that the match will be a very tactical affair to start with but if the teams are drawing, the second half will be more open as they will both want to take all three points.

“At San Siro, initially, it will be a tactical match because Inzaghi and Spalletti work like this and ask their boys this. If the match is level, I foresee two teams attacking in the second half. Both will want to win.”

The match will take place at San Siro on Sunday evening in front of a capacity crowd.
