Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic is expected to take on a role at the club next season similar to that of Gianluigi Buffon during his final year at Juventus, according to a report in the Italian print media.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport today, Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana is almost certainly going to be joining Inter on a free transfer this summer so he will be the number one goalkeeper for Inter next season.

This means that the club must decide what to do with the current number one, Samir Handanovic. The plan is for him to be the backup goalkeeper and have a reduced salary compared to what he earns right now.

A parallel has been made with the role that Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon played at Juventus during his final season with the Bianconeri.

He was backup to Wojciech Szczesny but was a serious competitor for the starting spot.
